It was do
or die for ROCCAT today. One game separated them from the Copenhagen Wolves,
and a win against the Wolves in today’s matchup would have led to a tiebreaker
to see who made it to playoffs and who didn’t. ROCCAT played exceptionally
well, stalling out the Wolves’ offense into the lategame – however, they just
didn’t have enough. In a 59-minute epic, ROCCAT fell to Copenhagen, dropping out
of playoff contention in the process.
The Wolves
ran roughshod over ROCCAT in the beginning of the match, making ample use of
their lane bullies and stronger early game to force down tower after tower and
pick up first blood. Though ROCCAT managed a single good teamfight at 27
minutes to help reign back Copenhagen’s lead, they ended up giving it away a
mere five minutes later after Overpow got caught out by Baron. That led to an
ace for the Wolves, a Baron, and an inhibitor in the toplane.
However,
ROCCAT didn’t roll over and die just yet. They fought a passionate defense,
stalling until the inhibitor respawned and then catching the Wolves at Baron
for two kills. After securing the buffs for themselves, ROCCAT managed to shove
all the way down the midlane to grab an inhibitor of their own, cutting
Copenhagen’s gold advantage to a mere 2k.
With two
exposed inhibitors though, ROCCAT was at a severe disadvantage. One bad
teamfight left them without their carries and the Wolves went for the Nexus,
knowing that nukeduck and Woolite would dead for almost a minute. The
inhibitors fell, but Jankos and Overpow pulled off a heroic defense to ace the
Wolves.
It was a fantastic play, and one
that led them to a Baron – but then Woolite made the mistake of recalling in
the middle of midlane. Freeze and Unlimited ran down the squishy Kog’Maw for an
easy kill, giving the Wolves all the teamfight advantage they needed to take
down ROCCAT. With the Nexus already exposed, courtesy of super minions, it was
a simple matter for the Wolves to push in an end the game.
Freeze and Soren both pulled their
weight for the Copenhagen Wolves, ending with twelve kills apiece and an equal
number of assists. The mobility afforded by their Kalista and Ahri picks let
the Wolves’ carries stay one step ahead of ROCCAT’s beefy tanks, kiting around
the fight and getting at the squishies. However, it was Airwak’s Sejuani that
really made a difference. As the team’s only tank, it was all on Airwaks to
find the fights and shut down nukeduck’s Katarina – and he delivered.
Meanwhile, nukeduck didn’t have a
good time this game. Picking Katarina into a team with Sejuani and Lulu is just
asking for trouble, and ROCCAT’s midlaner had very little impact on teamfights.
Woolite on the other hand performed admirably on his Kog’Maw, but the pick’s
effectiveness was lost somewhat against Copenhagen’s tankless team. Still,
ROCCAT arguably had a better team comp – they just failed to execute when they
needed to.
With the win today, the Wolves have
clinched their berth in the 2015 EU LCS Spring Split championship tournament.
ROCCAT meanwhile has been forced into the Promotion tournament and will be
playing for their LCS careers against up-and-coming Challenger teams.
