Alliance
was in a pinch coming into today’s game. Sure, they’d won yesterday against
Gambit, but with Fnatic only a game behind them, they couldn’t afford to lose
again. Their opponents, the Supa Hot Crew, needed a win in order to threaten
Alliance and Fnatic’s perch atop the standings – and they’ve certainly been
“supa” hot over the last few weeks. Today’s match between the two was both
close and not at all. While the two teams went blow-for-blow for the first 27
minutes of the game, Alliance’s first blood seemingly opened the floodgates for
their aggression. A short and brutal stomp later, Alliance found themselves at
the Supa Hot Crew’s Nexus with a decisive victory.
It
certainly was an odd game – no kills were gained by either team for the first
27 minutes of the match (an LCS record). Key rotations by both teams kept Shook
and Impaler’s ganks from ever being fatal, which made them look for sneaky
picks inside the enemy’s jungle. However, when first blood finally came down,
it was to Alliance. Nyph landed a great Death Sentence onto an overextended
SELFIE, allowing Shook and Froggen to follow up and take the kill. Immediately
afterwards, a good Explosive Cask by Wickd let Alliance take second blood as
well from kaSing. With two opponents down, Alliance raced for Baron, taking
after swatting Impaler away for the third kill of the game. Suddenly at a 2k
gold deficit, the Supa Hot Crew seemingly gave up – their teamfights and
rotations immediately became sloppy and Alliance easily took the win after
another 14 minutes of one-sided fighting.
It was as
though by gaining first blood, Alliance lost the ability to bleed. Shook would
eventually fall to give Supa Hot Crew a kill, but he was the only one – the
entirety of Alliance went deathless besides him. His death shouldn’t mar his
performance though. Shook’s unconventional jungle Riven pick worked out fairly
well in teamfights thanks to the champion’s surprising mobility and tankiness.
Of equal importance to Shook though is Nyph – securing your team first blood is
always good, but his Death Sentences and Flays were on point throughout the
game. Finally, Froggen demonstrated excellent command of Xerath for a second
time, landing key ultimates and Shocking Orbs from afar and letting his team
mop up in the aftermath. Alliance could seemingly do no wrong this game.
The Supa
Hot Crew meanwhile looked more shaky than I’ve seen them in the last few weeks.
They were solid all throughout the early game, taking an almost-equal number of
towers and securing all three early dragons, despite initiating a laneswap
against Wickd. However, their setup for the fourth dragon proved to be
disastrous when SELFIE got caught and killed. Though they had only a small gold
deficit, the Crew’s confidence had disappeared. Still, they looked decent
enough until a teamfight in the bottom lane went awry as well and netted
Alliance another three kills. After that, it was a stomp, plain and simple –
Alliance went where they pleased and took what they wanted, with no regard for
the Supa Hot Crew at all.
